Pioneer Youth  Minister (Lay)

In 2007 in a town called Shepshed (Leicestershire) a group of praying people got together with a vision for reaching young people in their town.

Through hard work and divine guidance Passion was born, a management team developed, a building secured, funding agreed from the Diocese and Youth worker employed.

Over the past four years Passion has gained an identity as a strong youth provision in the area, developing working partnerships with the local middle and upper schools, the police, social services and most importantly with the young people it was originally aimed at supporting.  Running drop in sessions during the weekends, working with the schools and other community groups, developing a youth forum and providing sessional work.

Under the guidance of a Youth Missioner a small group of committed volunteers have grown to the point of taking responsibility for some of this work so now it is time to take the next planned step and employ a Pioneer Minister to take what we have to the next stage.  Part of the strategic planning for Passion has always been to develop a form of church relevant to those we spend time with so we are seeking a passionate, committed Pioneer Minister with a heart for young people, schools, community and working alongside established and respected churches of more than one denomination to develop "church" even further

This project has a secured three year funding base and a person with experience in pioneering new churches is sought for this period of time

Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications

03/05/2013: Moving On: Rachael Taylor
Life is full of changes, nothing stays the same. During Spring this can be seen through the abundance of blossom, however, with a strong wind and a couple of rainy days within 3 weeks it will be gone. Within 12 weeks I will have moved on in my role as Head of Student Services, as a new location and degree course in Photography beckons. For many young people they will also be preparing to move on through the opportunity of Gap Years, Further Education and Higher Education, all of which will...

29/04/2013: The Feast
As youth leaders, we work hard to help our young people develop and grow, to overcome the obstacles they confront and to make the most of their lives. One of the challenges we face is that our world is incredibly diverse - with different colours, cultures and faiths, and so riddled with underlying prejudices and stereotypes. The Feast is a specialised project enabling young people of different faiths to get together and, starting with healthy faith discussions, to form friendships and be inspired...

Pastoral and Spiritual Care is one of the modules being taught this term. Here, Anne Alderidge, one of the tutors responsible for this module in Cambridge, tells us more about it... "We talk about ‘actions speaking louder than words’, we have two ears and one mouth! In spite of all this we live in a culture that shouts at us all the time but where actually listening to each other (and really hearing!) can seem like a lost art. I have been using my Easter holidays to catch up with the ITV drama series 'Broadchurch' about a child murder in a seaside town in Dorset. It's harrowing in places but also intriguing as the lives affected by this crime unfold. This community is full of secrets, and it is interesting to see how the fear and the guilt of those secrets affect people's behaviour. I wonder if we had had the 'on the spot' live coverage of events two thousand years ago, what the participants of the stoning of the...

"I was looking for a way of getting into church based youth ministry as a career, and so after completing a theology diploma I enrolled in the BA in Youth and Community Work and Applied Theology, as it was then (now 'Practical Theology'). The course itself was a great opportunity to not only learn the theory in the classroom, but also learn and develop the practical side while involved in hands-on youth ministry, as well as meeting people that would become life-long friends.
